Capturing natural moments…

At age 8, I bought my first camera at a local garage sale and began photographing my surroundings and the people in them. This began my love affair with photography and its amazing ability to create and retain memories.

My passion is my children, infant, family and maternity photography. I also hold an interest in photographing funky, hip senior and bridal portraits. My work is vivid and rich with intense blacks and the crisp whites. I search for pure candid moments and soft sweet pauses. The relationship between camera and subject is powerful and energizing.

I worked hard to educate myself in photography; I attended Austin Community College and worked diligently in their Photography Department, earning a Photographic Associates Degree in 2003. In 2004, I transferred to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Photography Program and began my journey into Conceptualism. Through the guidance of a professor, I developed my first installation. It was a personal piece that dealt with the absence of my late grandfather at my upcoming wedding. I honored him by incorporating photographs of a garden scene on silk banners, a wedding gown adorned with the image of his obituary face and photos of his belongings. The project was powerfuland was later displayed at Austin’s Art Outside in a glorious tree-filled scene. SAIC catapulted me into new ways of viewing my work and challenged me with new thought processes. I graduated in May 2005 from SAIC with a BFA in Photography.

During and after my time at SAIC, I worked as a Nanny for a wonderful Chicago family. Their beautiful little girl was my tiny muse for three years, inspiring me to push myself and learn new ways to photograph in a home environment. Her photographs saturate my portfolio. The summer after graduation, I worked as a photographer at a cutting edge children’s portrait studio, in Chicago, the experience improved my studio skills and gave me fantastic small business experience.

My husband and I moved back to Austin in May 2007, to start a new chapter in our lives. I’ve begun to promote my free-lance work and I am looking forward to forming new relationships with eager and willing clients! Checkout my blog to see what is new and current in my artistic life.
