Archive for August, 2007
Yesterday, I had my opening for my “Lantern Series” exhibit. Friends and family joined me at the opening in Pflugerville. It was an interesting experience. I am happy to see my work up in a space other than my home. It will be up at Formosa Art Tea House (200 E. Pecan St.) from August 18th – September 14th. An annoucement appeared in The Austin Chronicle’s August 17th edition…that is cool! First time a show of mine has been published in The Chronicle!
I am showing my Chinatown, Los Angeles images. It is a sweet little setting and there are a lot of really interesting things going on that day. My reception will start at 6pm. My series will be up for a month.
Here is additional info about the day:
On Saturday, May 18th, 4pm they invite the winner of 2006 Austin Martial Arts festival Chen Style Tai Chi competition, Yuxia Qiu, also a Chinese Medicine Dr. teaching at AOMA performs Chen style Tai Chi. Tai Chi is an internal martial arts. Chen style Tai Chi is the oldest Tai Chi among five main Tai Chi styles which considered can help improve overall health and well-being.
Formosa Art teahouse also will provide healthy herbs, bubble tea, smoothies, Chinese KungFu tea ( Tea Ceremony ) and several Formosa drinks for more enjoyments and cultural experiences.
At 6pm, there will be an art exhibition opening of a photographer, Hannah Day, and her Chinatown Lantern series. The lantern series examines the wonderful lights that hang above heads in Los Angeles’s Chinatown district. These wonderful illuminations become the subjects, characters and focus throughout this series. Neon, signs, trinkets and other paraphernalia add life and depth to each individual images, making them all very pleasing. Formosa Art Teahouse will also host a music concert and a poetry performing that day.
